In 1986, Sal Alvarez went to work at a large insurance company in Orange County, California. While working in the insurance industry, he began to notice numerous bills from language vendors. Curious, Sal discussed the language industry with his brother, Jorge, who at the time was working for a large medical group. Both conducted an independent review of the language services industry and reached some interesting conclusions.
Following their review, it became clear to Sal and Jorge that the insurance industry, employers and their service providers, such as medical groups, law firms, and their investigation firm’s use of language vendors caused numerous issues. These included operational inefficiencies, ineffective use of language services, and inconsistent per-unit costs. Ultimately, these discoveries predictably underscored that the then-current language service offering was also increasing medical costs as well as increasing litigation. In 1987, Sal and Jorge proposed starting a company that would address these shortfalls.
In 1987, 3iCorp.com® began from a one-bedroom apartment that was shared by Sal and Jorge during their college years. The initial investment of $100 bought phone service and an answering machine. Soon enough, their solution-based services took root and once they grew to six answering machines working in synch, it was finally time to hire their first employee. The company moved to its first office location, near California State University, Fullerton.
For the next ten years, the company operated out of Orange County, CA before moving to San Diego County, CA, in 1997. Its current corporate office is in San Marcos, CA, where today, the company is known as 3iCorp.com® and is serving numerous industries with the same goal of providing the best solution oriented services possible.
